Suicide: Not the Answer

Why do so many people believe that suicide is the solution to their problems? Is it really the last option one should consider when facing a difficult situation? If not, how can we help those in despair? Is there a solution for everyone? Yes, there are always other options.

First, what is suicide? In simple terms, suicide means ending your own life. But why would someone want to do this? There are many reasons, such as depression, feeling unloved and unnoticed by loved ones, being bullied at work, school, or anywhere, and trauma from being mistreated by others. These experiences can push someone toward considering suicide.

There are signs that someone might be thinking about suicide. One sign is a change in behavior. For example, if a usually happy and cheerful friend becomes quiet and uninterested in things they once enjoyed, it's important to check on them to see if they are okay mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Another sign is when someone posts about death or dying on their social media, like WhatsApp. If this happens frequently, it's a red flag that they need someone to talk to. Similarly, if someone talks about death or how depressed they are during a conversation, it's crucial to listen and find out what’s troubling them.

When a person seeks more attention than usual, saying things like "No one cares about me" or "I am alone," these are cries for help. It’s important to take these statements seriously, especially if they are repeated often.

To help prevent suicide, there are a few things you can do. If you see someone posting about death, reach out and talk to them. A simple conversation can make a big difference. Avoid making jokes or dismissive comments about their feelings, as this can make things worse.

Show kindness and make them feel special and loved. Regularly check on your friends and be mindful of what you joke about. Teasing someone about their shortcomings can damage their self-esteem and contribute to suicidal thoughts.

Above all, remember to show love and support.
